Organized from April 4th to 7th, 2019, the organizers of this second edition of AFRIFATA aim to position Casablanca as the fashion capital of Africa.
As a platform for showcasing the increasingly prominent African youth in fashion shows across numerous fashion weeks, AFRIFATA distinguishes itself through the strengthening of its exchange platform by inviting social institutions that work towards the development and support of youth in the fashion sector to encourage training and employability in fashion-related professions around fashion weeks.
Convinced that Africa has a major role to play in the creative sector, the founder of AFRIFATA, Zaineb Karroumi El Kadiri, chose to launch the second edition of the Festival of Emerging Young Talents Made in Africa under the patronage of UNESCO from April 4th to 7th. This edition will highlight the achievements of young talents from about fifteen African countries, fashion and design entrepreneurs from Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Togo, Rwanda, Egypt, Angola, South Africa, Cameroon, and France.
Recognized African personalities in the fashion sector will also be present, including Adama Paris, Didier de Villiers, and Letlabika Khumiso Mothei, who have the brand Magents. These mentors will be available to listen to the youth and participate in panel discussions to collectively contribute to advancements in the fashion industry.
The highlights of the International Fashion Talents Made in Africa Festival include a press conference on Thursday, April 4th at the ONOMO Hotel, followed by two roundtable discussions. The first will focus on “The History of Fabric in Africa, the Continent Originates 10% of the World’s Cotton Production,” and the second roundtable discussion on “The Role of AFRIFATA as an Incubator of Social Talents.”
On Friday, April 5th, the third roundtable discussion at the IMAX cinema will center on the role of women in the continent, “African Women: Compass of Change for a Continent in Motion.” In the early evening at Morocco Mall, the flagship event will be the young talent competition in the Central Square, with this year’s jury president being Mr. Hicham Lahlou. On Saturday, April 6th, there will be a gala dinner at the ONOMO Hotel followed by the awards ceremony for the AFRIFATA young talent competition.
